MDA joins the world of Twitter; followers welcomed @MDAnews
Now there’s yet another way to get news from MDA – follow the Association on Twitter, the popular social media tool, through its account, @MDAnews.
Followers will receive information about research and services, as well as action alerts about advocacy efforts, links to MDA’s Facebook and YouTube sites, and comprehensive coverage of the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.
Telethon posts will include links to historical footage, information on talent and segments, and up-to-the-minute, behind-the-scenes photos and information during the 2009 show. MDA plans to recruit celebrity guest Tweeters to post during the 21½ -hour broadcast, which airs Sept. 6 -7 on 180 stations across the country and on the MDA Web site.
“Our goal is to offer our followers quick and easy information about our efforts and to engage our community through feedback and direct messages,” MDA President & CEO Gerald C. Weinberg said. “There’s no denying that Twitter will be a valuable tool for us as we approach our Labor Day Telethon.”

MDA also hosts its own social networking site, myMDA, designed to provide people with muscle diseases, their families, friends and caregivers with a means to share experiences, exchange helpful tips and resources, and cultivate new friendships.
