Reaping the benefits of therapeutic riding and hippotherapy

It’s good to be back in the saddle. I thought my horseback-riding days were over due to the progression of Friedreich’s ataxia, until I found Therapeutic Riding of Tucson (TROT) in Arizona. I’m finishing up my second 12-week session at TROT, and I’ve noticed that — even with having a neuromuscular disease at age 33 — I’ve experienced many benefits from therapeutic riding.

Disabled Sports USA's mentoring program pairs kids with adults to develop sports abilities and life skills

Disabled Sports USA (DS/USA) will conduct its 2009 National Youth Sports Mentoring Program in 13 states during 2009. The program will match more than 200 youth with disabilities with mentors who will help them develop their sports abilities and skills they can use in everyday life.
