Make a Muscle, Make a Difference

make a muscle lineup

MDA is rolling out a new ad campaign this summer designed to pump up awareness of neuromuscular diseases and the need to support vital research and services.

Featuring the tagline “Make a Muscle, Make a Difference,” the eye-catching public service announcements (PSAs) encourage readers to “Be the next to flex for MDA.”

The ads feature a host of muscle-flexing celebrities dedicated to promoting MDA’s missions of help and hope. The PSA concept and design were donated by Phoenix PR firm EB Lane, and the nationwide promotion by communication management firm TargetCast of New York City.

MDA public webinar series puts you in the know

MDA has begun hosting a series of public webinars — Web seminars —  in which expert panelists speak on topics of interest to the MDA community. The sessions are archived on MDA’s website. (Go to

Past programs include:

That’s How I Roll — managing a personal care attendant, building a personal care network, the logistics of living independently and more.

The Road to College — selecting a college and best practices for high school students with disabilities.

Other sessions focus on Duchenne muscular dystrophy medical management; accessible travel for people with disabilities; information for newly diagnosed families; and a round-up of MDA’s advocacy activities.

Webinars scheduled for July include Coping with Hidden Disabilities and an update on the process by which MDA funds medical and scientific research. Active participation in the session requires both an Internet connection and a telephone.

Booboo Stewart

More MDA star power

Booboo Stewart, who plays Seth Clearwater in the new movie “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” has joined the MDA Muscle Team as the Association’s latest Celebrity Ambassador. Stewart, 16, visited MDA national headquarters on May 26 to work on photo and video projects that will educate young people about MDA’s fight against muscle diseases and motivate them to get involved.

A singer, dancer, actor and world champion martial artist, Stewart and his sister have toured with Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers. He’s also appeared on “CSI Miami,” “Everybody Hates Chris” and “ER.”

Welcome to the team, Booboo!
